Overview
This is the Normandy home and gardens where Impressionist master Claude Monet lived from 1883 until his death in 1926, and where he created his celebrated 'Water Lilies' (Nymphéas) series. The property pairs the flower-filled Clos Normand with the Water Garden, whose Japanese bridge and lily pond form some of the most painted scenes in art history. 2026 marks the centenary of Monet's death, accompanied by commemorative programming including a special exhibition at the nearby Musée des impressionnismes Giverny ('Before the Water Lilies. Monet discovers Giverny,' 27 March–5 July) and a region-wide Normandy Impressionist festival. The house and gardens open only from April to November, and demand is so high that booking a timed-entry ticket online in advance is effectively essential.

Good to know
RulesAdvance online booking is effectively mandatory: you choose a timed arrival slot, dates generally cannot be changed after purchase, and combined tickets with other museums are not sold. Confirm current prices and rules on the official website before you go.
SeasonThe gardens open only from 1 April to 1 November and close for winter. Peak months (May–August), weekends and French public holidays sell out and get very crowded, so book ahead and aim for an early slot right after opening.
MannersPicnicking, painting, sketching and wedding photoshoots are prohibited inside the gardens, and pets are not allowed except assistance dogs. On the narrow bridge and paths, avoid blocking the way and keep noise down out of courtesy to others.
SafetyThe Japanese bridge and pond area get extremely congested; take care of pushing and slips on the narrow wooden bridge. Watch for pickpockets on trains from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon and in crowded spots, and note that bags are limited to 55×35×20 cm.
CautionBuy tickets only from the official site (claudemonetgiverny.fr) or authorized sellers (Fnac, Seetickets, Ticketmaster). Third-party resellers with marked-up prices or 'skip-the-line' offers may charge extra or not match the actual timed slot.
RulesOn European Heritage Days (19–20 September), online booking is unavailable and tickets are sold only on site. Groups of 20 or more must reserve separately (reservation@claudemonetgiverny.fr).
Practical info
From Paris Gare Saint-Lazare, take a train to Vernon-Giverny station (about 45 minutes), then cover the remaining ~7 km by shuttle bus (about €5 one-way), bike or taxi. For 2026 the site opens 1 April–1 November, 10:00–18:00 (last admission 17:30); confirm hours, prices and shuttle timetables on the official website before your visit as they may change.
