Gamcheon Culture Village is a hillside neighborhood in Busan's Saha-gu where pastel, staircase-stacked houses cascade down a coastal slope. Settled in the 1950s by members of the Taegukdo religious community and Korean War refugees, it was revived through public-art projects that filled its alleys with murals and sculptures, earning nicknames like 'Korea's Machu Picchu' and 'the Santorini of Busan.' It remains a living residential village as well as one of Busan's top attractions.

MannersThis is a real residential area. Keep your voice down in the alleys and avoid noise early in the morning or late at night - quiet-request signs are posted throughout.
MannersDo not photograph residents, open windows, courtyards, or private interiors without permission, and respect posted 'no photography' signs.
RulesAreas marked 'no entry / private space' are private property. Stay on the marked orange-painted lanes and designated visitor routes.
SafetyThe slopes are steep and the stairs and alleys are narrow and uneven. Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes and take your time.
RulesTrash bins are scarce, so carry your rubbish out, and never deface or damage walls, murals, or artworks.
SeasonSpring and autumn are the most pleasant; weekends and peak-season afternoons get very crowded, so a weekday morning is calmer (mind summer heat and winter ice on the steps).
Practical info
Walking the village is free and possible anytime; shops and cafes run roughly 09:00-18:00, with many closing earlier in winter (check the latest). The stamp-tour map (~KRW 2,000) is sold only at the information center. Take Subway Line 1 to Toseong Station (Exit 6), then transfer at the Busan National University Hospital stop to a village bus (Saha 1-1, Seogu 2, Seogu 2-2) or city bus 61; a taxi from downtown takes about 10-20 minutes.
