Overview

A 16th–17th-century walled city from the Portuguese and Dutch colonial era on Sri Lanka's southwest coast, its well-preserved fort and European-style streets a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is loved for rampart walks, Indian Ocean sunsets and charming boutiques and cafes.
