Eling Park (鹅岭公园) sits on the highest ridge of Chongqing's Yuzhong peninsula and is the city's oldest park, originating as Liyuan (礼园, also called Yiyuan), the 1909 villa garden of Li Yaoting, first president of the Chongqing Chamber of Commerce, before it was opened to the public in 1958. Its centrepiece is Kansheng Tower (瞰胜楼, also known as Liangjiang Pavilion), a seven-storey, 41.44 m tower standing at 380 m elevation, from which you can see the Yangtze and Jialing rivers converge at Chaotianmen and take in the full sweep of the mountain city's night skyline. Since November 2025 the new Eling cliff-side skywalk has linked the park on foot to Liziba and Fotuguan Park, and Yuzhong District's 2025–2027 urban renewal programme includes upgrades to the park and new ridge-line lighting. Admission is free, which makes this the low-cost, low-stress alternative to the crowded Hongyadong and Liziba viewpoints when you want a place to sit and watch the city light up.
Kansheng Tower (Liangjiang Pavilion): a seven-storey, 41.44 m tower at 380 m above sea level; each floor frames a different view, and the top gives a 360-degree panorama over the Yangtze–Jialing confluence.
The two-river night view: the strip between roughly 19:30 and 21:30, once the riverside towers and bridge lighting come on, is the most spectacular window — and the tower's height makes decent handheld night shots realistic.
Eling Skywalk / Half-Mountain Cliff Trail: a cliff-hugging walkway threading Liziba Anti-Japanese War Heritage Park, Eling Park and Fotuguan Park together; the timed-booking system keeps crowd density lower than most Chongqing viewpoints.
The historic Liyuan garden fabric: the S-shaped Shishengqiao 'stone rope bridge' with balustrades carved to look like twisted rope, the hexagonal Feige pavilion, and Yihuiyuan with its rockery pool — surviving traces of a century-old private garden.
Easy pairings nearby: the TESTBED2 (鹅岭二厂) creative complex is within walking distance, and from mid-February to late March the Fotuguan stretch of Metro Line 2 becomes the famous 'train to spring' running through blossoming meiren mei plum trees.

SeasonChongqing's summer heat is extreme. In July 2026 the municipal weather bureau issued consecutive red-level high-temperature warnings, with highs above 40°C in many districts, and authorities advised avoiding outdoor activity between 12:00 and 16:00. In summer, climb after sunset and carry water and electrolyte drinks.
RulesThe Eling Skywalk has required online real-name booking since 25 November 2025. Reserve a date and time slot via the 'Yuzhong Parks' (渝中公园) WeChat official account or the 'Eling Park' mini-program for up to three people including yourself; visitors without a mainland Chinese ID — including foreign passport holders — must book at the on-site visitor service point. From January 2026 the skywalk also closes every Monday for maintenance (except public holidays), operating Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:40. The park itself remains free and needs no booking.
RulesMainland China requires payment and connectivity prep. Cash and foreign credit cards are refused in many places, so link an overseas card to Alipay or WeChat Pay and complete passport identity verification before you fly; the in-app transit QR code (乘车码) is also the simplest way to ride the metro and buses. Google, and some Korean and other foreign services, are blocked, so install and pay for a VPN before arrival — international roaming or a foreign eSIM also helps bypass filtering.
RulesEntry rules change often. Nationals of several countries currently enjoy temporary visa-free entry for tourism, but these are time-limited schemes with fixed expiry dates, so confirm your own nationality's status with a Chinese embassy or consulate before booking. Hotels register your passport with police automatically at check-in; if you stay in a private home or unregistered rental, you must register at the local police station yourself, typically within 24–72 hours of arrival.
SafetyThe whole park is built on a steep ridge, with long flights of stairs and slopes, and some descent paths are dimly lit after dark. Wear shoes with grip and stay behind railings. Stone steps and skywalk decking get slippery after summer downpours, and the crush of visitors heading down near the 22:00 closing time makes taxis hard to get — leaving around 21:30 is the calmer choice.
CautionAround tourist sites, some taxi drivers refuse the meter and quote a flat fare, or take long detours. Booking through DiDi (usable via the Alipay or WeChat mini-program with just a passport) locks in the price up front. Also ignore touts offering to guide you to a 'special' viewpoint for a fee: the park and its tower viewpoint are widely reported as free of any separate paid entry procedure, so decline any charge not made at an official on-site ticket counter.
MannersEling Park is a neighbourhood park before it is an attraction. Early mornings and evenings bring tai chi, square dancing and choir groups — walk through without filming them, and avoid monopolising the narrow tower stairwells with a tripod. Cooking, drinking alcohol and flying drones may be restricted inside the park, and central Chongqing has extensive no-fly zones, so do not launch a drone without prior clearance.
Practical info
Take Metro Line 1 to Eling Station and walk from Exit 1; city buses including route 829 also stop at Eling Park / Eling. Park entry is free and opening hours are generally listed as early morning to about 22:00 (sources differ between a 07:00 and 08:00 start), but tower access fees, skywalk booking quotas and hours change frequently — check the 'Yuzhong Parks' WeChat official account for the latest before you go.
