🇳🇱 Scheveningen Beach & Pier

Location

Overview

Scheveningen is the North Sea seaside resort district of The Hague (Den Haag), famous for its wide sandy beach, the grand Kurhaus hotel, and the iconic De Pier stretching out over the water. The pier is home to the Netherlands' first Ferris wheel above the sea, plus a bungee tower and zipline, giving the boulevard a lively resort atmosphere. As of 2026, the central boulevard in front of the Kurhaus is undergoing a major redesign, so expect some detours and construction between De Pier and the Beelden aan Zee museum. It is a year-round destination: beach cafés (strandtenten) line the sand in summer, while winter brings promenade walks and the famous New Year's Day dive.

Practical info

Scheveningen lies about 6 km northwest of central The Hague. Take HTM tram 1 from Den Haag HS (Hollands Spoor) toward Kurhaus / Zwarte Pad (about 20-30 min, every ~15 min), or tram 9 from Den Haag Centraal. Access to the pier itself is free (generally from 10:00), but attractions like the Ferris wheel, bungee and zipline are paid and their prices and opening hours vary by season, so check the latest details on the official websites before visiting.
