Overview
Delphi is an ancient Greek sanctuary on the southern slopes of Mount Parnassus, dedicated to Apollo and famed for its oracle, where the priestess Pythia delivered prophecies; the ancients regarded it as the omphalos, the 'navel of the world.' A UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed 1987), it centers on the Temple of Apollo and unfolds up the hillside along the Sacred Way past treasuries, a theatre, a stadium, and the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia. As of 2026 the site is fully open, and pairing the ruins with the Archaeological Museum of Delphi makes for a popular half- to full-day visit.

SafetyThe site is a rocky hillside with uneven, sometimes slippery paths and steps. Wear flat trainers or hiking shoes and watch your footing.
SeasonSummer midday is very hot with almost no shade. Aim for early morning or late afternoon and bring a hat, water, and sun protection.
SeasonIn winter (roughly November-March) hours shorten to about 08:30-15:30 and the mountain setting is cold, so always check the latest opening times before you go.
RulesAdmission is by a combined site-and-museum ticket; in peak season buy ahead on the official platform (hhticket.gr). Climbing on the ruins and flying drones are not permitted.
