Royal Delft, officially De Porceleyne Fles, was founded in 1653 and is the last of Delft's 17th-century potteries still hand-painting Delft Blue earthenware today. It is celebrated as the home of 'Delftware' - the white pottery decorated with cobalt-blue designs - and combines a working factory with an attached museum. As of 2026 you can still watch master painters at work up close, and a life-size Delft Blue rendition of Rembrandt's 'The Night Watch' is a signature highlight. It pairs naturally with a stroll through Delft's historic old town for a half-day visit.

RulesOpening hours vary by day of the week (for example, a later opening on Mondays) and the museum closes on 1 Jan and 25-26 Dec. Always confirm the current day's hours and ticket prices on the official website before you go.
RulesSome experiences - tile-painting workshops, guided tours and High Tea - are by reservation and/or cost extra. The audio tour is included with admission and available in 8 languages (including English and Japanese, but not Korean).
MannersThe painting hall is a real workshop. Keep quiet during demonstrations, do not touch the work benches or displayed pottery, and follow the posted photo rules (flash and tripods may be restricted in some areas).
CautionWatch for pickpockets in central Delft and on/around trains and stations. Wear your bag in front and split up your passport and cards. Genuine Delftware is widely imitated in souvenir shops - buy authentic pieces from the official showroom or certified dealers.
SeasonDutch weather is often wet, windy and grey year-round, and evenings can be cool even in summer. Bring a waterproof jacket, a compact umbrella and comfortable walking shoes. Spring (April-May tulip season) is peak and can be crowded.
SafetyFor public transport, OVpay lets you tap on and off with a foreign contactless credit/debit card instead of an OV-chipkaart - be sure to tap the same card both when boarding and alighting. Also take care when walking near the red-asphalt bike lanes, as cyclists move fast.
Practical info
Royal Delft is about a 15-20 minute walk from Delft Centraal station, or reachable by bus (e.g. line 40) to near the 'Jaffalaan' stop, then a short walk. It generally opens in the morning and closes around 5 pm, with a typical visit of 1.5-2 hours; because hours, ticket prices and reservation-only programs change, check the official website for the latest before visiting.
