SafetyShallow water blackout (SWB) and LMC arrive without warning, most often in the final 5β10 m of the ascent. Being indoors in warm water does nothing to lower the hypoxic risk. Standing rescue divers and 56 cameras are not a substitute for a buddy β dive only with a trained buddy or safety who watches you from descent through surfacing and recovery breathing, and never hyperventilate under any circumstances.
SafetyFresh water is less buoyant than sea water, so the weight belt you use in the ocean will leave you overweighted here. Being overweighted through freefall translates directly into a failed ascent, so start any first session with a weight check at shallow depth. The uniform blue also strips away visual reference and distorts depth perception, and the sheer comfort of the medium tempts a faster descent β a fast track to sinus, ear and lung squeeze. Add jet lag, dehydration and short sleep after a long-haul flight and equalisation and hypoxic tolerance degrade together β so do not schedule a personal best into a holiday itinerary, and if your ears will not open that day, end the session there.
SafetyThe sunken city is an overhead environment. The moment you enter a room, the garage or the arcade, your vertical route to the surface is cut off, and on a breath-hold even a few seconds of delay is decisive. Do not penetrate the structures without specific training and a guide alongside you.
RulesMinimum age for freediving is 13, and minors need a parent or legal guardian present plus written consent. A 'Fit to Dive' medical questionnaire is mandatory, and any 'yes' answer requires physician clearance. Your maximum permitted depth depends on your certification level, and experienced but uncertified divers are directed to private sessions.
