Dameisha Beach is a free municipal beach park in Shenzhen's Yantian District, stretching roughly 1.4 km along the coast and covering about 20 hectares, with some 116,000 m² of sand. Opened in 1999, it is the city's most popular stretch of shoreline and its "Meisha Surf" view is counted among Shenzhen's Eight Scenic Wonders. After Typhoon Mangkhut damaged the site in 2018, a major reconstruction begun in 2019 added elevated sky-bridge corridors, ecological restoration zones and new landmark sculptures. Since Metro Line 8's Dameisha station opened in December 2023, the beach is reachable from downtown entirely by rail, making it an easy half-day add-on to a Shenzhen or Hong Kong-area trip — though peak-season weekends draw very large local crowds.

Three elevated corridor bridges (Fengxin Bridge, Central Bridge and the Shanhai Guanri pier) that cross above the sand and frame sea and mountain in a single view.

Good to know
SafetySwim only inside the marked, shark-netted zone and only while lifeguards are on duty. Swimming beyond the nets and night swimming are prohibited, and some stretches have shifting depth and rip currents.
SafetyWatch for jellyfish. In April 2025 a large bloom of white jellyfish appeared in the Dameisha waters and authorities issued a public warning; first-aid posts and a medical room on the sand were reinforced afterwards. Tentacles are hard to see, so never touch them. If stung, rinse with clean seawater — not tap or bottled fresh water, which can trigger further toxin release — do not scratch, and go straight to the medical station.
SeasonThe swimming season runs roughly May to October, with June to October offering the best water temperature and clarity. July to September is typhoon season, however, and the park closes without much notice during typhoon warnings or heavy rain — check the morning forecast and park notices before you travel.
RulesPayment is effectively mobile-only via Alipay or WeChat Pay. Set these up before departure, verifying your identity with your passport and linking an international Visa or Mastercard. Transactions of 200 RMB or less carry no cross-border fee, while those above 200 RMB incur roughly a 3% charge; carry some cash as backup. Google, Instagram, LINE and similar services are blocked, so arrange roaming or a travel eSIM that routes through your home network.
RulesMany nationalities, including South Korean passport holders, can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days through 31 December 2026 for tourism, business, family visits or transit. Note that all foreign visitors must register their temporary accommodation with police within 24 hours of arrival — hotels handle this at check-in, but guesthouse or private-home stays require registering at the local police station yourself.
CautionConfirm prices before you commit for umbrella, chair and float rentals on the sand and at nearby seafood restaurants. Seafood is often sold at market rate, so check the listed price and the weight unit (many places quote per jin, 500 g) before ordering, and settle against an itemised bill.
MannersChanging rooms, showers and lockers generally charge a fee, and towels are not provided. Cooking and barbecuing on the sand are prohibited, as is smoking outside designated areas, and you are expected to carry your rubbish out. Peak-season weekends are extremely busy with local families, so a weekday or early-morning visit is far more comfortable.
Practical info
Take Metro Line 2/8 (through-running service) to Dameisha station; Exits A and B lead directly onto the beachfront, so no transfer from downtown is needed, and Line 8 was extended east to Xichong in December 2025. Admission is free and the park generally opens around 07:00 and closes at 23:00, with clearing from about 22:00, though some listings give a 06:30 opening. During peak season (1 May–7 October) and on weekends and public holidays a vehicle-entry reservation scheme applies to the Meisha area, and pedestrian entry reservations can be reinstated as conditions require — confirm current rules and book up to a week ahead through the official "i Yantian" WeChat account, and always verify the latest hours and fees before your visit.
