Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff (the Jungmun-Daepo Coast columnar joint) is a wall of hexagonal basalt pillars along the coast near Jeju's Jungmun Resort, formed when lava that erupted roughly 140,000-250,000 years ago cooled rapidly on contact with the sea. Rising 30-40 m high and stretching about 1 km, it is the largest columnar jointing formation in Korea and is designated Natural Monument No. 443. Boardwalks and observation decks let you view the black stone columns and crashing waves up close.

SafetyThe decks run right up to the cliff edge. Stay inside the marked path and railings, and never lean out past the railing to photograph the waves.
SeasonDuring strong winds, high surf or typhoons the site may be closed or shut early for safety, so check whether it is open before visiting during typhoon season (mainly summer to early autumn) or in bad weather.
RulesAs a protected Natural Monument, climbing on the columns and removing rocks or pebbles is prohibited. Do not climb down onto the rocks below the deck.
SafetySea spray can leave the pillars and deck wet and slippery. Wear non-slip shoes and watch your footing, especially after rain or high wind.
SeasonSpring and autumn are the most comfortable times to visit; on summer afternoons there is little shade along the coast, so prepare for sun and heat.
Practical info
Admission, opening hours and parking fees vary by season, sunset time and weather, so confirm the latest details before you go via the official Seogwipo City guide (Jusangjeolli e-ticket). It generally opens around 9:00 with a separate last-entry time, and paid parking is available. Reach it by Airport Limousine bus 600 from Jeju International Airport, or by local bus from downtown Seogwipo.
