The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a world-renowned conservation, breeding and research center on the northeastern edge of Chengdu, Sichuan. Its bamboo-filled enclosures recreate the pandas' natural habitat, letting visitors watch dozens of giant pandas up close, along with red pandas and, in summer, tiny newborn cubs in the nursery houses. It is a large, park-like site with a lot of walking involved.

CautionBook tickets only through official channels (the official WeChat mini-program, official website, or officially authorized apps). Anyone selling tickets on the street or at the gate, or demanding extra fees for 'quick entry,' is running a scam. Never buy from them.
RulesFull real-name reservation is required, and you must bring the original ID/passport used to book in order to enter. Tickets often sell out weeks ahead in peak season, so reserve early (verify latest details).
MannersDo not feed the pandas or pick bamboo to hand them. Pandas eat only a controlled diet from their keepers, and visitor food is harmful to them.
RulesFlash photography is prohibited. Cubs in particular have eyes highly sensitive to light, and a flash can hurt them.
MannersAvoid loud voices and sudden sharp noises. Pandas prefer quiet surroundings and are easily startled by noise.
SeasonIn summer (roughly June–August), when temperatures exceed about 26°C, pandas are moved indoors and are hard to see outside. In hot months, an early-morning visit right at opening is strongly recommended (verify latest).
Practical info
Pandas are most active right after opening in the early morning (roughly 7:30–10:00, their feeding time), so arrive early. The easiest route is Metro Line 3 to Panda Avenue Station, Exit A, then a shuttle bus (e.g. route 408) to the South Gate. Wear comfortable shoes for the large grounds, or use the paid sightseeing shuttle if walking is tiring. Confirm current prices and hours on official channels before you go.
