Chatuchak Weekend Market (JJ Market) in northern Bangkok is one of the world's largest open-air weekend markets, packing more than 15,000 stalls into roughly 1.1 km². Organized into 26-plus themed sections spanning clothing, vintage goods, handicrafts, antiques, plants, pets and food, it draws an estimated 200,000-300,000 visitors each weekend. Entry is free, and because the site is huge, it helps to open a map app and target the sections you care about.

CautionGem/jewelry scams occasionally operate near the entrances: a friendly stranger steers you toward a 'special deal.' These are almost universally fraudulent, so decline.
CautionTuk-tuk drivers outside may offer to take you to a 'better' or 'cheaper' market, which is really a commission-paying shop. Ignore them and stay inside the market.
CautionSome antique-section vendors sell reproductions as genuine antiques, so be cautious with pricey purchases and compare stalls to gauge the current going rate.
RulesNewly made Buddha images over 12 cm tall require an export permit from the Fine Arts Department and are limited to five per person; exporting Buddha-image parts such as heads, hands or feet is banned outright. Check before buying such souvenirs.
SeasonIn the March-May dry/hot season, midday temperatures top 35°C and it stays sweltering even under the tents. Visit early morning (before 10:30) or after 4 pm, and bring water, a hat, a fan and sunscreen.

Open Sat-Sun 09:00-18:00 (some zones open Friday afternoon; the plant section also opens Wed-Thu). Verify hours, fees and rules before you go. MRT Kamphaeng Phet Exit 2 leads straight into the heart of the market, and it's about a 5-minute walk from BTS Mo Chit. Many stalls don't take cards, so bring plenty of small-denomination cash.
