Cerro Campanario is a roughly 1,050 m (3,400 ft) lookout inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, about 17.5 km west of downtown Bariloche along Avenida Bustillo. Its summit delivers a 360-degree panorama over Lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno, the Llao Llao peninsula, Victoria Island and Andean peaks such as Catedral, Otto and López — a view widely reported to have been ranked by National Geographic among the world's finest panoramas. As of 2026 it operates year-round (with a few off-season maintenance closures), reached by an open chairlift (aerosilla) or a short walking trail. SeasonJuly is deep southern-hemisphere winter. Snow and strong wind can delay or halt the chairlift, so confirm same-day operation before you go. Conversely, in the December–February high season the lift queues get long, so arrive in the morning.
SafetyThe chairlift is fully open with no roof, so the wind-chill is severe in winter; bring gloves, a hat and warm layers plus non-slip shoes. The walking trail is short but steep and can be slick when wet or icy.
CautionAvoid overpriced taxi and tour touts in town by using the official Line 20 bus (Mi Bus) with a SUBE card. For money, prefer card payments or official exchange offices and steer clear of unofficial street money-changers (cuevas).
RulesThis is national-park land: stay on marked trails and viewing decks and pack out all trash. Drone use may be restricted under park rules, so check in advance.
MannersThe summit decks are a popular photo spot and get crowded — take turns for shots and don't monopolize café tables. A tip of around 10% is customary at Argentine cafés and restaurants.
SafetyMountain weather changes fast; even in summer the summit is windy and cool, so pack a jacket. Carry Argentine pesos in cash and a pre-loaded SUBE card, as both are handy on the day.

Take Line 20 (Mi Bus, SUBE card required) from Bariloche's terminal or downtown (near Moreno 400) and get off at the Avenida Bustillo km 17.5 stop; a rental car or a Circuito Chico tour also works. Hiking the trail is free while the chairlift is paid, and the site runs year-round from roughly 9 a.m. into the evening — but fares, hours and maintenance closures change by season, so always confirm the latest details through official channels before visiting.
