Cabo da Roca, in Sintra, Portugal, is the westernmost point of continental Europe (and of the Eurasian landmass), perched on granite cliffs that rise about 140 m above the Atlantic. Its landmarks are a stone cross monument inscribed with poet Camões' line 'Where the land ends and the sea begins' and a lighthouse dating from 1772. It is free and open at all hours, with most visitors staying 15–30 minutes to take in the cliff-top views.

SafetyFatal cliff falls have happened here. Never climb past the safety barriers for a photo, and keep well back from the edge — especially in strong wind or after rain, when the ground is most unstable.
SeasonOcean wind makes it feel 5–10°C cooler than sheltered Sintra or Cascais, and gusts can be fierce. Bring a windproof, warm layer even in summer.
RulesBuses 1253 (from Sintra) and 1624 (from Cascais) run on a reduced winter timetable with earlier last departures. Don't just plan around sunset — check the return bus times first (the old 403 was discontinued in 2023).
CautionOn packaged Lisbon day tours, the Cabo da Roca stop is often only 15–20 minutes. Go independently if you want time here, and be wary of touts overstating the value of private tours.
MannersThe viewpoint gets crowded at sunset and when tour coaches arrive. Don't monopolize the popular photo spots — take your shot and let others through.
