Overview

Broadway is the main entertainment thoroughfare of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, and its four-block stretch of Lower Broadway between 1st and 5th Avenues is known as the 'Honky Tonk Highway'—a shrine to live country music. Neon-lit honky tonks line the street, pumping free live bands into the sidewalks 365 days a year from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., carrying on a country-music heritage born from the Grand Ole Opry's years at the nearby Ryman Auditorium. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980, the strip has in recent years filled with celebrity-owned multi-level bars and, as of 2026, ranks among the busiest tourist streets in the United States. You don't need a ticket—just walking the block turns the whole city into one big stage.
