Borough Market is London's oldest food market, tucked beside Southwark Cathedral right next to London Bridge station in Southwark. SeasonSaturday afternoons and weekday lunchtimes are busiest. For unhurried grazing, Tuesday–Thursday mornings are quieter. In December the market extends to seven days for festive shopping, but expect big crowds.
RulesThe market is closed on Mondays, and only some traders attend Tuesday–Friday (the fullest line-up is at the weekend). No smoking anywhere on site, no riding bikes or scooters through the market, and dogs must be on a lead or carried. Professional filming or photography needs advance arrangement.
MannersAisles are narrow, so don't block them while taking photos. Only take samples if you genuinely intend to buy. Most stalls take cards and contactless, but a little cash is handy, and many are stand-and-eat rather than sit-down.
CautionThe market's own stalls are reputable, but around London Bridge station and the market fringes watch for common street tricks such as petition/clipboard sign-ups, forced 'gift' bracelets or roses, and fake charity collectors — ignore unlicensed touts.
