Beomeosa is a mountain temple on the eastern slopes of Geumjeongsan in Busan, traditionally said to have been founded in 678 CE by the eminent Silla monk Uisang. Together with Haeinsa and Tongdosa, it is counted among the three great temples of the Yeongnam region, offering the quiet of a mountain monastery within easy reach of the city by subway. Its grounds hold nationally designated treasures, including the main hall (Daeungjeon, National Treasure No. 434) and the Jogyemun gate (National Treasure No. 1461).
Daeungjeon (Main Hall) - a wooden hall rebuilt in the early 17th century (c. 1614) and designated National Treasure No. 434, the spiritual heart of the temple.
Jogyemun (One-Pillar Gate) - a distinctive iljumun raised on four stone pillars, marking the first threshold into the temple precinct.
Beomeosa Wisteria Colony (Natural Monument) - hundreds of wisteria vines climbing the rocks of a nearby valley, bursting into purple bloom in early May in a spot nicknamed 'Wisteria Cloud Valley.'
Three-story Stone Pagoda and stone lanterns - fine stone works in the Unified Silla style scattered across the grounds.
Gateway to Geumjeongsan - the temple is a popular trailhead for hiking Geumjeongsan Mountain, letting you combine a hike with a temple visit.

MannersThe halls are active places of worship. Keep your voice low, offer a slight bow with palms together toward the Buddha, and move quietly so as not to disturb monks or worshippers.
MannersRemove your shoes before entering a hall, and wear socks rather than going barefoot. By custom the central door is left for monks; visitors use the side doors.
RulesDress modestly and avoid very short or revealing clothing. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted within the temple grounds.
