Location

Overview

The Ars Electronica Center (AEC), the self-styled "Museum of the Future," sits on the Danube in Linz, Austria, and is run by Ars Electronica, a world-renowned institution exploring the intersection of art, technology and society. First opened in 1996 and rebuilt in 2009, its glass shell of around 1,100 LED panels turns the whole building into a color-shifting media facade at night, while inside, hands-on exhibitions on AI, neurobionics, space and robotics sit alongside Deep Space 8K, an immersive room projecting ultra-high-definition 3D imagery across 16 × 9 m wall and floor screens. In 2026 it remains the most-visited museum in Linz, and each September it hosts the Ars Electronica Festival (2026 theme: "Future Begins"), one of the world's largest media-art gatherings. It is best approached as an interactive, experiment-driven visit for families and tech-curious travelers alike.
