🇹🇼 Anping Old Fort (Fort Zeelandia)

安平古堡 · 타이난(Tainan)

Location

Overview

Anping Old Fort began in 1624 as Fort Zeelandia, the Dutch East India Company's trading and administrative base in Taiwan, and it is now a Grade 1 national historic site marking the start of Taiwan's modern history. After Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) drove out the Dutch in 1662, it was renamed Anping and became a seat of government; the white observation tower seen today dates from Japanese-era and post-war restorations. It is the signature landmark of Tainan's Anping district, condensing nearly 400 years of history into one site.
