Overview

Distinct from the Annapurna Circuit, this trek walks straight into the round glacial amphitheater known as the Annapurna Sanctuary, ringed by Annapurna I (8,091m) and Machapuchare (6,993m). The destination, Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), is easily reached with only a TIMS card and ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area) entry fee — no restricted-area permit is needed. The route passes Gurung villages such as Ghandruk and Chhomrong, keeping the sacred, unclimbed peak Machapuchare (Fishtail) in close view the whole way.

·The stone staircases from Chhomrong onward are physically demanding round-trip, so budget an extra buffer day.
