Location

Overview

At 2,243m, Adam's Peak is a mountain revered as sacred by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians alike. A footprint-shaped rock formation at the summit is attributed to a different figure by each faith. During the pilgrimage season from December to May, thousands of steps are lit up, and pilgrims begin climbing at midnight to reach the summit for sunrise and the famous shadow phenomenon, when the mountain casts a sharp triangular shadow to the west.
