Overview
Starting at Marahau near Nelson and running roughly 60km of coastline to Totaranui, this is the only Great Walk that hugs the beach for most of its length. The Golden Bay region's signature golden sand beaches and turquoise water line the route, and with low rainfall and mild temperatures it ranks among the easiest of the nine Great Walks. Beyond the standard 3-5 day walk, combining it with kayaking or using water taxis to skip sections is common.
